The Scottsdale Dream Kitchen

Scottsdale Dream Kitchen

The goal of this project was to bring the client’s dream kitchen to life using their drawings and concept photographs as the foundation.

Designed Around Function

Storage was a major priority, and the cabinetry was designed to make use of nearly every available space.

Custom storage solutions included two pantry swing-outs, back-of-door hanging storage, a full-height pantry pullout, spice and oil pullouts above the range, two blender shelf lifts, shallow storage beside both refrigerators, and pullouts behind each base cabinet door.

The original design kept the perimeter cabinetry beneath the existing soffits.

Rethinking the Scale

Once Randy saw the home’s dramatic 18.5-foot ceiling, he recommended reworking the design to better emphasize the height and openness of the room.

Budget constraints initially prevented that larger redesign, so the project moved forward with the approved cabinetry plan.

After construction had already begun in the shop, however, the clients requested a change influenced by feedback from friends: they wanted to visually conceal the soffits and increase the height of the hood.

A Mid-Project Redesign

Randy regrouped and redesigned the upper soffit area so it would read as an extension of the cabinetry rather than a separate architectural element.

At the same time, the hood was raised to approximately 14 feet — just high enough to clear the ceiling of the workshop during fabrication.

The result gave the kitchen a much stronger sense of vertical scale while still working within the realities of the project.

Functionality With Presence

In the end, the Scottsdale Dream Kitchen achieved the practical storage the clients needed while creating a grander visual presence appropriate for the space.

The finished kitchen balances openness and scale with a classic sense of warmth and comfort, all while remaining within budget.

A Vision Realized

The Scottsdale Dream Kitchen is a strong example of what can happen when a project is approached as a true partnership.

For Randy, the greatest reward is helping clients transform their ideas, drawings, and aspirations into spaces they can actually live in and enjoy.
